Review of DCAA: Will the cure be worse than the disease?
The Defense Business Board, a DoD advisory panel comprised of high-level business executives, will review DCAA’s procedures and make recommendations to the Pentagon for improving them, the department announced Aug. 12.
A Defense Department spokeswoman said the business executives were chosen to review the problems at DCAA because they have the contracting expertise needed to review the cases.
But some watchdogs are wary. With defense industry executives advising DoD leadership on how to repair problems at DCAA’s problems, “I fear the cure will be much worse than the illness,” said Danielle Brian, executive director of the Project on Government Oversight. Even with its challenges, DCAA is still the most independent entity in DoD, she said.
